Prevention Officer / Safety Specialist at Braspenning Group Global
Prevention Officer / Safety Specialist – Braspenning Group
Location: Amsterdam (with regular presence on projects in the Netherlands and abroad)
Can you make sure everyone gets home safely at the end of the day — from Rotterdam to Curaçao?
At Braspenning Group, we work every day on challenging projects in the maritime and industrial sectors. We blast and coat steel, build scaffolding and carry out rope access work at shipyards and industrial sites, both nationally and internationally — in blasting and paint halls as well as in dry docks. Safe and healthy working practices, with clear attention to the environment, are central to everything we do — and that’s where you come in.
We are looking for a Prevention Officer / Safety Specialist who keeps our organization sharp, identifies risks, spots and implements improvement opportunities, and takes colleagues along in practical, hands-on safety, health and environmental awareness.
Your objective in this role:ou are responsible for establishing, safeguarding and continuously improving the safety and prevention approach within the Braspenning Group, across all locations and projects in the Netherlands and abroad.
In this role, you act as the key link between policy and practice. You:
- Use and inspect your own PPE correctly at all times, setting the right example on site.
- Comply with company, safety and environmental regulations and work instructions yourself, and actively coach others to do the same.
- Supervise daily operations and ensure that all activities and processes are carried out safely and in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Identify and report unsafe situations and environmentally irresponsible behaviour, and proactively contribute to practical solutions.
- Actively address colleagues on unsafe and/or environmentally irresponsible behaviour in a respectful, clear and constructive way.
- Contribute to a positive, open safety culture and work effectively and harmoniously with colleagues and management.
- Demonstrate flexibility by adapting to changing projects, locations and circumstances.
- Have the authority and confidence to stop work when activities cannot be performed safely or when an immediate risk is present.
- Act visibly as a role model and encourage employees to actively contribute to a safe and environmentally conscious working environment.
- Work closely with colleagues within the Safety & Environment (HSE) organisation to develop concrete improvement plans and support their implementation.
What you will bring to the table:
You are a practical safety professional who can easily switch between the shop floor and the boardroom. In addition, you have:- A completed MBO or HBO degree in Intermediate or Higher Safety Management (MVK/HVK), or a comparable qualification and/or demonstrable experience.
- Thorough knowledge of relevant safety requirements, legislation and regulations (e.g. the Dutch Working Conditions Act / Arbowet), and preferably also of environmental aspects and impacts.
- Strong communication and coaching skills: you know how to bring people along, both in content and in tone.
- An eye for detail and strong analytical skills: you recognise patterns, root causes and improvement opportunities.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (reporting, analysis, dashboards/overviews).
- Preferably a valid BHV (Emergency Response Officer) certificate (or willingness to obtain one).
Furthermore:
- Strong command of the Dutch and English languages, both written and spoken.
- Solid knowledge of relevant safety legislation and regulations (e.g. the Dutch Working Conditions Act / Arbowet, industry safety catalogues (Arbocatalogi), Environmental Planning Act / Omgevingswet, etc.).
- Strong communication and coaching skills: you know how to engage people through both content and tone, and can speak the language of both practice and theory.
- Strong analytical skills: you recognise patterns, root causes and opportunities for improvement.
- Experience with Microsoft Office (reporting, analyses, dashboards/overviews).
- Experience in metal preservation and/or the maritime sector is considered a plus.
Reporting line:
In this role, you report directly to the Managing Director of Braspenning Indoor B.V. You work closely with project managers, operational management and the Safety & Environment (HSE) organisation.
What we offer:
Working at Braspenning Group means working in an entrepreneurial family business with international reach. We can offer:
- A key position where you can make real impact on safety, health and the environment in an international industrial environment.
- Variety between office work, the shop floor and (international) project locations.
- The opportunity to help build and further professionalise our HSE organisation and safety structure.
- Strong primary and secondary employment conditions, in line with your knowledge and experience.
- Training and development opportunities (e.g. further specialisation in safety management, HSE, auditing or environmental management).
- A down-to-earth, loyal team where people work hard — and laugh together too.
