Project Manager Metal Conservation
Region: North & South Holland | Base: Velsen-Noord | Full-time: 32–40 hrs/week
Where precision meets purpose.
Some projects don't leave room for error. Offshore installations, shipyards, industrial plants, critical infrastructure — these are environments where the quality of a coating system can determine the lifespan of an asset worth millions. At De Back Metaalconservering, part of the Braspenning Group, we protect what matters most. And we're looking for the person who leads that protection from the front. We're hiring an experienced, decisive Project Manager Metal Conservation who knows their way around a blast yard as well as a boardroom.
About De Back Metaalconservering
De Back Metaalconservering is a specialist subsidiary of the Braspenning Group — an organisation with nearly 70 years of experience in industrial surface treatment, coating technology and corrosion protection. Our teams operate daily on technically demanding projects across the Netherlands: from offshore platforms to industrial facilities and major infrastructure. No-nonsense. High standards. Built on craftsmanship.
The Role
As Project Manager Metal Conservation, you own projects end-to-end — from initial scoping and planning through to final handover. You are the central link between clients, execution teams, subcontractors and management. You know what's happening on the work floor, and you make sure it aligns with what was promised in the boardroom.
You report directly to the Managing Director and are regularly present on project sites across North and South Holland.
Your key responsibilities:
- Lead blasting, coating and conservation projects from inquiry through to client sign-off
- Develop project schedules, work preparations and budgets
- Direct site supervisors, foremen and operational teams
- Monitor progress, quality, safety and financial performance — and intervene decisively when needed
- Manage client relationships, supplier contracts and subcontractor coordination
- Handle variation orders (additional and reduced scope)
- Attend and lead construction and project meetings
- Conduct site inspections and toolbox meetings
- Spot commercial opportunities and identify maintenance needs at client sites
- Produce clear project reports, documentation and post-project evaluations
- Support broader operational processes across the North and South Holland region
You don't need a manual to understand a complex project environment. You've been there. You know the smell of a blast yard, the pressure of a tight dry-dock schedule, and exactly what it takes to keep a team sharp when deadlines are closing in.
You also bring:
- MBO working and thinking level
- Proven experience as a project manager in metal conservation, offshore, shipbuilding, industrial maintenance or a comparable technical sector
- Solid knowledge of coating systems, blasting techniques and surface treatment processes
- Strong organisational and communication skills — in writing and in person
- Natural leadership ability and a clear sense of accountability
- An uncompromising focus on safety, quality and results
- Commercial awareness and genuine client orientation
- Strong command of the Dutch language (written and spoken)
- Valid Dutch driving licence (category B)
- VOL-VCA certification (or willingness to obtain it promptly)
- Certifications such as NACE, FROSIO or CINI are a significant advantage
Joining De Back Metaalconservering means stepping into an organisation where your decisions matter and your expertise is valued — not just on paper, but on the project floor.
We offer:
- An autonomous, high-responsibility role with real ownership
- Work on large-scale, technically challenging projects in a sector that keeps industry moving
- A competitive, market-aligned salary reflecting your experience and capabilities
- Company car, phone and laptop
- Ongoing training and support in obtaining relevant industry certifications
- A professional, no-nonsense team that delivers
- Clear growth pathways within an internationally operating group
- A dynamic working environment — because no two projects are ever the same
